This Atlantic coast drive takes you from the heat of Marrakech to the breezy port city of Essaouira. The road passes through argan tree country — watch for goats climbing the trees! Essaouira offers beautiful beaches, excellent seafood, and a laid-back medina. Perfect for a day trip or overnight stay.
The easiest Atlas Mountain excursion from Marrakech. Drive south through increasingly dramatic scenery to reach Berber villages, waterfalls, and traditional gardens. The road follows the Ourika river valley and is paved throughout. A half-day trip is enough, but you'll want to stay longer.
Cross the High Atlas via the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m) to reach the UNESCO World Heritage kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. Used as a filming location for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia, this is one of Morocco's most photogenic sites. Continue to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa."
Morocco's most impressive waterfalls cascade 110 meters into a canyon full of wild Barbary macaques. The drive takes you through olive groves and rural villages. Swimming is possible at the base of the falls. Best visited in spring when water flow is strongest.
The ultimate Moroccan road trip. Cross the Atlas Mountains, descend through the stunning Draa Valley lined with palm oases, pass through Zagora, and continue to Merzouga for Sahara camel trekking and desert camping. This trip requires at least 2-3 days and an SUV is recommended.
Drive through the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" to reach these dramatic canyon gorges. The Todra Gorge has 300-meter-high canyon walls, while the Dadès Gorge offers winding roads through incredible rock formations. A 2-day trip is ideal.
Drive to the Berber village of Imlil, the starting point for hiking North Africa's highest peak (Mount Toubkal, 4,167m). Even if you don't climb, the village offers stunning mountain scenery, traditional Berber hospitality, and excellent trekking opportunities.
Head southwest to Morocco's premier beach resort city and the famous surf village of Taghazout. The road follows the foothills of the Anti-Atlas before reaching the coast. Great for surfing, beach relaxation, and fresh seafood.
A thrilling mountain drive through the western High Atlas. This narrow, winding road offers breathtaking views and reaches 2,092 meters. Much less trafficked than the Tizi n'Tichka, it feels like an adventure. Ends in Taroudant, a charming walled town known as "little Marrakech."
A circular route through the Middle Atlas foothills. Visit the springs of Ain Asserdoun, the town of Beni Mellal, and loop back via the Ouzoud Waterfalls. This route showcases a different side of Morocco — green, agricultural, and less touristy.
